Turtles and cheeseburgers #iPPP

We’re nearing the halfway point of this pregnancy and the big anatomy ultrasound is coming up.

I know when you hear people say, “We don’t care about the sex as long as it’s healthy,” you roll your eyes because of course people have a preference…but I don’t think that I do this time.

Last time? Totally wanted a boy. Got a boy. Husband did a bizarre “I’m the champ” pose in the ultrasound room when we spotted the little “turtle” on the screen.

But this time, I can honestly say that there are pros to having either sex and all I’m really truly actually worried about is seeing all the other parts present and in working order.

Well then, why even find out, right? Just be surprised. Be “Team Green.”

Psh. Riiiiight.

I need to know what variety I’m carrying. I’m so tired of referring to it as “It.”

It? Might as well start calling it Pennywise.

I need to know if we’ve got a turtle or a cheeseburger on that anatomy scan because I need to name this baby. We’ve finally settled on both a girl name and a boy name and I need to make it permanent before I get itchy Google fingers and start adding more names to the list again.

We went back and forth for what seemed like forever trying to agree on names. Lists were made and deleted. Do you know how hard it is to come up with baby names after you’ve been a teacher? Or if you’re married to a guy who dated half the coeds at his college? Or if you’re the last person to get around to having babies in your family and you like Biblical names and everyone (especially your sister, ahem) has already taken all the really good ones so you’re left with like, Habbukuk?

So I need to know. Is it a boy? Will he wear all of Monkey’s adorable old baby clothes? Will Monkey grow up with a brother to love and tussle with? Will we complete my mom’s boys’ basketball team?

Or is it a girl? Will we get to shop for pinks and purples? Will we be introduced to the world of tutus and tiaras? Will my mom finally get that granddaughter and my sister finally get that girl she’s always wanted?

Little baby, are you a Ruffle Butt or a Scuffle Butt?

What do y’all think?

*I really appreciate all the love you guys gave this photo on Instagram and Facebook this week. It’s hard to feel pretty during pregnancy, what with all the lumpiness and weird acne. You guys have made me feel like a preggo princess and I can’t thank you enough.

Also, it’s #iPPP time! Link up your camera phone photos with me and The Funk!

  1. What lumpiness?

Also, I’m with you on knowing whether the baby is a he or a she as soon as possible. I cannot wait to find out other people’s babies gender, what makes anyone think I can wait for my own?

    Cannot wait! When’s the scan?????

  3. OMG that was such a cute post! And how adorable are you!! I LOVE IT! I am partial to girls, they are so cute and fun to dress up. I have tons of boy nephews and they scare me with all their toughness and roughness and SMELLINESS. Healthy is of course the obvious choice but hamburger here we come!

  4. You DO look awesome! I don’t think I was ever that small with my ONLY pregnancy. Cheeseburgers or turtles had me cracking up. I would for sure want to know. I am terrible with surprises and like you, I’d want to be calling the baby something other than a word that generates scary clown images.

  5. Lookin good! And, I’m a terrible horrible no good gender guesser. Have fun at that ultrasound. We didn’t find out Oscar’s gender and I always assumed he was a girl. So, very surprising (and wonderful too of course) to learn he was a boy! I’ll be rooting for…..either!

  6. You do look like a preggo princess. I really love this pic. You just look so happy. Will you share when you find out? I could never wait to find out either and I really, really wanted a boy the first time… got it and a girl the second time… got that too. The last one was the icing on the cake!!! :)

  7. We initially thought we wanted our second to be a surprise but now we’ve reconsidered. We will want to know.
There’s things we’ll need to get if its a different gender
And I’ll need to prepare for the peen

  8. OOOOH how exciting to find out!!!! I’m guessing boy. Also, have you ever considered Ezra? It was a name we seriously considered before going with Ethan Zane (I still get to call him EZ) but I can actually see him as an Ezra and it’s biblical… ;) just sayin.

  9. 1) I hope you have a girl. Yes I have a preference even though it’s not my kid.

    2) I have a lot of material for girl quilts.

    3) You look beautiful in all the prego pictures I’ve seen.

    • If I do have a girl, I’m sending her to you during the summer so your awesome girls can show her how it’s done. Their personalities come through so clearly in pictures! Love them.

  10. Why is naming a baby so effing hard??? I’m impressed that you settled on two. My hubs and I would have been screwed if #2 had been a boy. All we could come up with were really Italian sounding names that were crazy pretentious. Marco was pretty high up there. Marco Feldman? I dunno. Thank goodness it worked out OK. Good luck with the scan. That babe is happy and healthy and soon you will know that for sure.

  11. Omg. I loved this post. I’m sorry I took all the good Bible names. But I do like the boy name you picked. But please be a ruffle butt. Aunt cindi needs a girl to dress up and teach about the bling factor! But I will be happy with another boy too. I do love monster trucks. Lol.

      • I know we had fun having our babies together. But now I can enjoy this baby more because I won’t have to take of my own baby. I can spend more time with her. Not that I didn’t enjoy time with monkey as a baby but you know what I mean. Well anywho. I’m excited either way but I have to say. GO TEAM PINK. :)

  12. Oh my! Cheeseburger! I almost peed laughing so hard! We went the surprise route and just called the baby “shim” but I can understand the need to know. Goodluck with the rest of your term. You look great :)

  13. You look great! Seriously!
I’ve voting for girl simply because shopping for a girl is so much more fun.. and easy!
I wanted to know what I was having with every baby I had just because it made it a lot easier to be prepared and honestly, the neutral stuff isn’t all that neutral in my opinion.
